Feed the latest sports news directly into your website

Did you know your SportingPulse website has the ability to include remote news feeds?

Much like you can include external content into your MySport page, club website administrators can include these news feeds into their club sites, providing the ability for news on club sites to remain fresh and current without needing to lift a finger!

There are many news feeds to choose from, from many different sports - e.g. if your club is a Basketball club you can choose to subscribe to the Basketball Australia news feed - ensuring you are only seeing the news relevant to your club members.

Remote news feeds can be added either as a widget into right-hand column of your website, or as a stand-alone page within your site. To add a feed,
simply follow the following instructions:

1. Adding a Remote News Feed as a right-hand column Widget
  • Go to Widget Manager from your Site Admin Control Panel.
  • From the 'Add new Widget' selector box at the bottom, select Remote Content and click 'Add New Section'.
  • Right-click on the Remote Content section that's been added and click 'Edit'.
  • Click the 'Choose/Change Source' button, then either search or browse through all the available news feeds.
  • Select your required feed and click the Save button.
2. Adding a Remote News Feed as a normal website page
  • Go to Content Manager from your Site Admin Control Panel.
  • From the 'Add new Section' selector box at the bottom, select Remote Content and click 'Add New Section'.
  • Right-click on the Remote Content section that's been added and click 'Edit'.
  • Click the 'Choose/Change Source' button, then either search or browse through all the available news feeds.
  • Select your required feed and click the Save button.
Tip: Once you have selected your required feed, go back into the Content or Widget Manager and change the name of the section from 'Remote Content' to something more relevant in order to describe the feed. For example "Basketball Australia News".

It's that simple!

  1. This is a great feature but is there also the ability to import data from the actual sporting pulse pages to another club website, either via a RSS fee or API of some sort?
Specifically I'd like to be able to grab all the fixtures, results and standings for certain teams and display them on our own club website.

  2. G'day Daniel,

    No, the ability to embed SportingPulse results in your own club website isn't available for 3 reasons;

1/ Leagues and Clubs have access to our free software, but in order for us to remain a viable business, we have to commercialise the pages / community as an outcome. By distributing results, we wouldn't be able to afford to provide free software to thousands of leagues and clubs.

2/ Through your relationship with SportingPulse, you have access to a free website. These websites are constantly upgraded, so our goal is to get clubs like yours in the Network by providing the best web tools available to grassroots sport.

3/ Because of the way our software works, its hard to get a representation on a '3rd party' website that renders well. As such, if you have your own club website and wish to keep it, you need only to link through to SportingPulse for Results, Fixtures and Stats. We can even customise a landing page for you that has the same colours and header as you club site.

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers, Andrew

  3. @Daniel... I'm with you.
@Andrew... Facebook does this very successfully, and I'm guessing could be worth a little more.

  4. Hi Anon - thanks for the comment.

This article was about linking news from external sites onto your own site, in terms of embedding an RSS feed.

In terms of Facebook, if you're using Facebook for your club, you should be adding stories that drive users back into your club infrastructure..

If you're using Facebook as your club 'website', that's a different thing - but we don't feed results into Facebook via API; nor do we have any intention of doing this.

    Cheers
